“All we are saying, is give peace a chance.” The sentiment by John Lennon has been echoed throughout history; although strife has been a part of our legacy, most people truly do wish for peace. It is with this driving passion that Don Morris instituted World Peace Day in 1997. The Miami native became known as “the Peaceguy”, and rather than set up a huge event, he simply asked that people be kind to one another.
The concept is simple. If each person spreads peace and kindness to their sphere of influence, surely the world would experience this peace on a global scale. Peace takes many forms – whether an inner peace that gives solace or a gesture of peace to reconcile a relationship. Peace can be described as the absence of war, or the absence of discord in a family. If you would like to spread the peace on World Peace Day, Morris suggests that in addition to acts of kindness, that we pray or meditate for national and world peace.
If you would like to send a message of peace to a friend or family member, Schaaf Floral has some beautiful options. The Peace Lily plant may be the most obvious; add beautiful ivy and floral blooms and deliver serenity to someone in Minneapolis or beyond. Green plants are known to infuse calm and tranquility into any space in which they reside; white lilies and roses can also signify peace and gentility.
World Peace Day is November 17. Whether we send a bouquet or simply hold a door open for a stranger, let’s all do our part to spread a little peace to our corner of the world. Schaaf Floral has all the flowers, gifts and green arrangements you’ll need.
