Outdoor Plants: Guide to Perk Up Your Patio

outdoor plantsNow that summer is in full swing, the warmer weather encourages people to spend more time outdoors. If you’re lucky enough to have a deck or patio, you have the perfect setup for outdoor entertaining. At Schaaf Floral, we love to encourage our customers to take their indoor plants outside during the summer months, or consider getting European gardens that you can use to add some interest to your outdoor dining and entertaining spaces, and enjoy indoors when the weather changes or gets worse. Versatility is a great way to dress up your patio or deck – without having to do anything very labor-intensive.

Use Basket Gardens and Potted Plants to Create Your Own Private Oasis

Transform your patio into a tropical oasis and transport your guests into another world. Let them imagine they’re far away from Minneapolis, reveling in a dream place – with the delicious food you serve in your lavishly unique surroundings. You may not be able to grow tropical plants in the ground in Minnesota, but there’s no reason to let that stop you from enjoying them in pots – in your house or on your patio.

Potted Anthurium Lily

A Potted Anthurium Lily is a unique way to add interest and color to your patio or deck space. The unusual-looking red flowers are unlike any flower we’ve seen. Instead of multiple petals, the flower is more like a leaf because of the heavy texture of the flower head. The bright shiny red of this flower offers an interesting contrast to the dark shiny green leaves. This beautiful tropical plant is common in Hawaii, so be sure to take it in when and if the temperatures drop below temperatures that are typical of Hawaii. If your patio or deck gets a lot of suns, this plant is sure to thrive in the bright sun and fresh air.

Our Deluxe Flowering Garden is reminiscent of a delightful European window box or basket such as what you’d see attached to windows, or wrought-iron balconies on architecturally interesting buildings. This whimsical arrangement gives you color through African violets and their velvety leaves, Kalanchoe, and their thick, succulent leaves, and delightful begonias and Gerbera daisies. Green plants offer contrast and fill empty spaces, so you really get the feeling that the whole arrangement of this basket was carefully planned.

Escape to Europe with Nature’s Garden. We really capture the essence of a lush European garden by combining plants with different types of foliage in different shades of green. We mix in flowering plants and other plants to create a luxurious looking garden in a small basket. This is perfect for a dining table, a side table, or just a small area that you want to spruce up with interesting plants.
