Established by Congress in 1978, Grandparents Day began in the heart and mind of a mother and grandmother from West Virginia. Her original vision was not for a commercial holiday, rather Marian McQuade’s dream was that people would take advantage of the time set aside plan gatherings, have family reunions, share family history and stories, and celebrate those who embody the the legacy – grandparents and older generations.
The day is also a perfect opportunity for younger generations to express their gratitude and love for their grandparents.
