Giving Violets this February

shutterstock_196566356It may be February, and spring arrives in just over a month. You wouldn’t know that by looking out a window in our city. If you’re brave enough to venture outside in this brutal cold, you may doubt you’ll ever get a glimpse of spring’s warm breezes and beautiful colors. Here at Schaaf Floral, we have our own opinion regarding spring. We’re ready to bring it on!

Most people know about the connection between precious stones and birth months. Like stones, birth months are connected to different flowers. The flowers and their respective flowers are steeped in history and tradition. Much of their meaning dates back to the Victorian Era and the widespread use of the “Language of Flowers.”

According to Farmer’s Almanac, February’s birth flower is the violet. This flower symbolizes faithfulness, loyalty, and watchfulness. If you give someone a gift of violets for their birthday, you are promising them that you will always be there for them. You are promising to be faithful and loyal, while assuring that person of your constant presence.

Victorian Bazaar explains that in the “Language of Flowers,” a violet symbolizes affection, modesty, and virtue. The blue violet represents fidelity, love, and watchfulness. A white violet, on the other hand, says, “Let’s take a chance on happiness.”

The violet is often referred to as a “viola.” Regardless of what it’s called, this flowering plant belongs to the Violaceae family. This flower family has 400 to 500 known species throughout the world. Violets come in a range of bright colors. The sight of violets bursting with blooms is a welcome sign that winter’s end is near.

We’ve gathered some of our favorite spring plant and flower arrangements that are packed with the colors that

are so synonymous with violets. If you are looking for a plant or flower gift to give someone whose birthday is in February, consider some of these suggestions.

Our beautiful Butterfly Basket bursts with spring color. We’ve combined the traditional purple violet color with white, pink, fuchsia, and yellow flowers, creating a cheery basket that is sure to transform any space into a spring-like oasis.

Another fun February birthday gift is our Deluxe Flowering Garden. We took a basket and neatly arranged African violets, azaleas, begonias, Gerbera daisies, and Kalanchoe. We add ivy and Dieffenbachia to make this basket burst with color and texture.
