September birthdays have the honor of being represented by one of the most cherished birthstones, the sapphire. Only four of the birthstones are true precious gems, and this is one of them. Known as the “celestial stone” because of its brilliant blue color, the sapphire actually occurs in a full range of colors including pink, orange, and red. In addition to sapphires, the birth flower of the month is the aster. In fact, the name aster originates from the Greek word for “star”, linking both the aster and the sapphire in their meaning.
